5 Reasons for Christians to Engage Others Online
So, we’re getting ready for this awesome journey into social media. I’ll be posting the available courses, schedules, and other important information later this week. Fun! Fun! Fun!
Before we party, let’s go ahead and get some basic concepts out of the way. Specifically, let’s look at reasons other than the obvious building of your database, church, sales, etc. Instead, check out these 5 reasons for Christians to Engage Others Online :
1. It’s all about Jesus; He desired to connect with us! You know, the whole point of salvation is that Jesus died for our sins so that we are able to live and connect or be with Him for eternity if we accept Him and believe in Him. Any Christian-based efforts in social media should stem from this fact.
2. It’s a part of ministry. Remember, ministry is not about you but rather the people you are serving. How can you help someone when you don’t know what they need? Engaging others help you find out what they need. Check out this blog on ChurchMarketingSucks.com that emphasized the importance of connecting with people in social media.
3. It shows that you are human, too. It’s okay if you make a few mistakes. You’re not perfect. Spell a word wrong every now and than or then - hahaha! The majority of us are more attracted to someone who has a personality; of course, every personality has flaws. It’s okay to be yourself in a way that honors Christ.
4. It builds trust with your contacts. I’ve talked with several people online who later wanted to work with me because I deliver a consistent message of being who God created me to be: His Servant. You should be consistent as well. This is a little thing marketers call “branding.” We’ll talk more about this as we go on.
5. It makes valuable 2-way communication. If you’re only sending information, you are blocking the opportunity for constructive feedback. That feedback could give you insight on why a person decides to check out your church, accept Jesus Christ, or even buy your product after hearing about it on Twitter. If you know why a person takes an action or doesn’t take an action, you will know how to improve your efforts.
Stay tuned. Course listings, schedules, and other important information coming up next.
Until next time, remember…
