“Something More” than Online Connections

We have a wonderful opportunity to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through social media.  Still, I’m even more convicted that the church’s online efforts must transform into efforts that not only connect people online to the Good News  but also connect people to churches, ministries, etc.   Basically, there should be efforts to pull people who are online offline to physically connect with a body of believers, when possible, for the sake of true fellowship.  You know, where you can actually touch the person next to you!

While I am definitely an advocate for building one’s networks online, I’m an even bigger advocate of converting those online contacts into “something more” than just another follower or fan.  That “something more” can vary for a specific church, ministry, organization, etc.  depending on an entity’s specific purpose for social networking.  One organization may use social media to recruit volunteers.  A church may use social media to invite potential visitors to a service.  A prayer ministry may connect with its online network once monthly for corporate prayer and fellowship. To determine what that “something more” means for your church, ministry, organization, etc., first consider your organization’s overall mission.  How would social networking help you achieve that bigger picture?

Until next time, remember…
